In the animated series Hercules, which takes place years before the events of the film, he would make his first attempts to overthrow his brother from power, such as tricking the gods into swimming in the Lethe River, which erases his memories, and then turning Zeus into a mortal and then feeding him to Cerebus.Upon learning that his nephew Hercules will stop him if he appears just at the moment as he is about to take over the cosmos, he orders his two henchmen, Pain and Panic, to use a position against the baby Hercules that will take away his immortality and thus be able to kill him.He plans to overthrow his brother Zeus to rule the cosmos and become the new god of Olympus by freeing the Titans, despite Zeus allowing Hades to be the god of the underworld, the place where souls go after they die.Despite being a demon, he possesses a clear moral agency yet chooses to do what is wrong anyway.It is implied he used Lethe water to help get away with his crimes which explains why he isn't severely punish in several episodes.He appears to have a crush on Aphrodite, however it's never made clear if it is out of love or lust.
